CREATE A SOCIETY
1. DECIDE WHAT YOUR SOCIETY IS ABOUT
What are the aims and goals of your society? What sort of members are you looking for? Are there any other societies that already address these questions? Make sure you have a clear idea of how you want your society to look and operate before deciding to create one.
You are encouraged to get in touch with the Societies Officer before or whilst setting up your society to ask any questions, resolve any issues or brainstorm ideas.
2. GAUGE INTEREST
Reach out to other students, create a poll on Facebook or simply ask your friends. It's a good idea to figure out how many people will be interested in your society before creating it. This will also help you establish your Committee...
3. ESTABLISH YOUR COMMITTEE
Every society, regardless of size, must be run by a Committee comprising of at least:
and an optional Vice-President.
Other possible electable positions could include a Social Media Manager, Events Manager, or Communications Officer. If you are unsure which positions you could include, please contact the Societies Officer, who will be happy to assist you.
The details of each position can be found in the Society Constitution Template - but please feel free to amend and adjust these roles as necessary.
4. WRITE YOUR CONSTITUTION
Having a Constitution is one of the most essential parts of creating a society, and societies cannot function without one. The Constitution template can be found linked on the 'Society Links' page.
All you need to do is create a copy of the Google Doc and fill out the parts in red. Make sure you read everything carefully and that your Committee agrees on everything. If you do not have full Committee approval, your constitution will be invalid, and your Society will not be allowed to operate.
5. WRITE YOUR DESCRIPTION
Your society will be displayed on this website, and your description should showcase the aims and goals of your society to attract potential members. Your description should be short and sweet - it doesn't need to be any longer than 100 words, and there is a space for you to include this in the application form.
6. CREATE YOUR LOGO
Having a logo makes your society easily recognisable. The recommended dimensions are 1000x1000px, and you can send your logo through the application form.
7. SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION
Once you have completed all of the steps above, please complete the 'New Society Application' form linked on the Society Links page. The Societies Officer will get back to you within a few days with the next steps. In the meantime, you should read through both the Societies Welcome Pack, and the Society and Events Guide linked on the same page.

8. HAVE FUN!
Once your society is created, you can begin to host events, activities, competitions, discussions, outgoings, or whatever else your society wishes to do. You can find guidance on hosting events in the Society and Events Guide linked on the Society Links page.
All announcements must be sent through our Newsletter Form to be communicated to the rest of the university via the weekly NCHSU Newsletter. If you have any questions about the Newsletter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
You're welcome to create a Facebook page, Instagram account, group chat, etc., to encourage people to join, advertise events and announcements, and keep in touch with your Society members and the wider university community.
